Biography

My family and I left the Soviet Union as refugees in August 1989. We spent six months in Austria and Italy waiting for permission to enter the United States. We arrived in America in February 1990. We had to start all over again.

6. 1991–1993 Bud Trading LTDFounder and president. Started by selling a used car, then shipped cars from the United States to the former Soviet Union, and imported and exported Italian furniture, clothing, footwear, and electronics.
7. 1992–2000 Terra USACo-founder and president. One of the largest distributors for Philip Morris, Kraft General Foods, and R.J. Reynolds in the CIS. By 1995, annual revenue reached $500 million.
8. 2001–2011 CentroChairman of the board from 2001 to 2004, then an investor and board member until 2011. The largest shoe retailer in the CIS: in 2013, it was selling about 72 million pairs of shoes a year, with revenue of around $1.6 billion.
9. 2001–2013 Corrado GroupCo-founder and CEO. We built three brands — Corrado, La Corra, and Vilanta — from scratch and within six years took them to second place in their segment in Russia, capturing about 15% of the market with 105 SKUs. In 2011, we launched the Mamako baby food brand. 10. 2003–2005 Amson CorporationFounder and CEO. Our 26 breath strip and hard candy SKUs were carried by more than 20,000 retail locations in Russia, putting us ahead of Wrigley and Listerine. The category itself never took off, and the company closed.
